Seventh Day Adventists in the Reading area recognized early the need for Christian education. The first Adventist church school started in 1898. After that year, the school was closed and not reopened until the 1914-1915 school year.
As early as 1928, there were two schools operating in the immediate Reading area. As the Adventist congregation grew, the need for a new school plant was seen. Construction began at the current location in the early 1940’s and continued until following World War II. The academic year 1949-1950 was the first year of school at that location and since that year a consolidated school has been operated by the Fleetwood, Hampden Heights, and Kenhorst Blvd. Seventh Day Adventist Churches.
Two additions have been added to the school since those early years. The three classrooms on the west end of the building were added about
1963. In 1973, an addition was added to the gymnasium which included the downstairs restrooms, hallway, and storage areas.
Many fine leaders have come from the Adventists schools in the Reading area since those modest beginnings in 1898. Reading SDA Junior Academy is proud of the part it has had in preparing young people for these last days and it is in this tradition that we go forward.
